Singer Sewing Skill Centres

SINGER is amongst the leading brand of Sewing Machines OVER 170 years.

Established in the year 1851 by Sir Isaac Merritt Singer, ‘Singer Sewing Machine Company has been a pioneer in manufacturing and selling sewing machines. The Company created its foothold in India in the year 1871 and has a legacy of over 150 years in India, with its headquarters in New Delhi and its manufacturing facilities in Jammu.

Singer India through it’s Women Empowerment Project of Ek Nai Pehchaan, has committed itself to aggressively aim to skill women from the weaker sections of society who are coming from the slums and lower-middle strata. These women are generally unemployed, school drop-outs and widows.

A simple skill of sewing holds an important alternative for the women as it opens up the  avenues for starting stitching from home while enabling them to continue their roles as traditional homemaker and thus making them self independent to support the income of their family and the welfare of their children food and education. As due to poverty and illiteracy they have to mostly work as sweepers maids and daily labor. There is no education restriction and girls/women from the age group of 15 years onwards can learn sewing at the Skill Centers.

Singer in partnership with Rotary International, Lions Clubs International which are worldwide Organizations doing humanitarian services and many other reputed NGOs, sets up Sewing Centre across PAN INDIA covering rural/urban/sub-urban areas. These Organizations provide space for opening up the Centre and are provided with sewing machines at special discount. Singer is the technical and knowledge support partner with them providing curriculum, certification  and regular supervision, trainings and workshops at the centers.

With a network of over 400 Sewing Skill Centers which are equipped with Straight Stitch machines, Zig Zag designer machines including Industrial Machines from where more than 15000 women have already confidently learned sewing and are still ongoing.

The women at the Skill Centers learn from basic to advance stitching and machine creative embroidery, designer garment stitching, training on Industrial machines which helps them in understanding the  skills and techniques for career opportunities. These women gain lot of confidence after taking the Singer professionally prescribed 3 Months Certification and 6 Months Diploma courses from the Centers to become financially self independent and they are also aided with the purchase of sewing machines at special discount to start their own tailoring/boutique/or doing stitching from home/or sub contract work from large boutiques, production houses.

Singer also has network of Sewing Skill Training Centers in Universities, Colleges and Schools to offer accessible fashion designing career in order to prepare the teenage girls with the knowledge and skill in hand to be economically independent.

Singer  through its   “SINGER SEWING STUDIO”, imparts the Live Online Sewing classes at very nominal fees for3 months Certificate & 6 months Diploma courses for Women where our expert teachers teach Sewing in Simple and Easy way, So that even the beginners in Sewing can comfortably sitting at Home Learn Sewing from the very basic to advance techniques and sew the garments with professional finish!

Partnerships are an integral component in the journey of reaching out to actively work for uplifting the women. Many reputed Organizations/Corporates are associated with us as part of their CSR initiative by setting up Sewing Skill Centers.

• We are also associated with Delhi Police, Indian Air Force(AFWWA- Air Force Wives Welfare Association) and with Indian Army (AWWA- Army Wives Welfare Association) for educating and empowering Armed Forces Women for providing vocational sewing skills training to them.

On regular intervals, Train the Trainer Workshops, Technical Training Workshops on Machine Operation and Maintenance, Special Garments Making Workshops are conducted at the Skill Centers.

Another initiative, “Sewing Hope – Stitching Behind Bars”, where Singer imparts sewing training to both women and men undertrial prison inmates in several prisons in Delhi/NCR, to help them post-release to secure employment or open their tailoring shop.

Yes! I am the CHANGE

Singer India’s women empowerment efforts showcased as a short film, Ek Nayi Pehchaan, was selected amongst the Top Best 60 Social Films from 13 lakh participations in the “YES! I am the CHANGE” challenge organized by Yes Bank’s -Yes Foundation, the world’s largest social film movement during 2017.

And That’s not all ….There are more Skill Development Initiatives…

• The Company regularly participate in the Welfare Schemes for Women beneficiaries empowerment through Sewing Machines via GM and other States Tenders/Schemes.

• In our endeavor to promote education integrated with skill development, Singer India also tied up with the Department of Education, Government of Haryana to promote the national initiative of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. Under this scheme, sewing machines were provided to impart sewing skills to girls of Government schools in Jhajjar district of Haryana.

• SINGER has worked as a Training Partner with LOOMBA FOUNDATION who works with a resolution to supplement the income of the widows through the sewing skill.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji  attended the function and handed over Singer Sewing machines to 5000 widows in Varanasi which was donated by Loomba Foundation.

• We have recently participated in UPSC Scheme run by UP Government where Singer India had provided 6045 Sewing Machines along with Sewing kits.
