Introduction:

As technology continues to evolve, so does the need for responsible disposal of end-of-life electronic products. Items such as mobile phones, laptops, televisions, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, lights, bulbs, sewing machines—once useful—can become sources of environmental harm if not handled properly. These discarded electronics, commonly referred to as E-waste, often contain valuable materials like copper, aluminium, and precious metals, but also hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, and cadmium.

Improper disposal of E-waste can result in these toxic elements seeping into our soil, water, and air—posing serious threats to both public health and the environment.

At Singer India Limited, sustainability is a key part of our operational philosophy. In alignment with the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India, we have taken proactive steps to ensure that all discarded electronic products from our brand are collected, transported, and recycled through authorized and environmentally sound processes.

Our goal is not just regulatory compliance, but a long-term commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of our products.

Customer Empowerment

We recognize that consumers play a central role in the circular economy. Every choice you make—from purchase to disposal—has an impact. Here’s how you can join us in this mission:

  • Buy Smart: Choose durable, repairable, and energy-efficient products
  • Extend Life: Repair, refurbish, or donate electronics rather than discard them
  • Stay Informed: Learn about the environmental impact of hazardous materials in gadgets
  • Choose Sustainable Labels: Look for eco-labels like EPEAT, Energy Star, or RoHS-compliant devices
  • Educate the Next Generation: Talk to children and students about e-waste and involve them in recycling actions early on

Together, small choices lead to large impact.

Data Protection Awareness

In today’s digital world, personal data security is a serious concern. Before you dispose of any device:

  • Back up your data
  • Permanently erase sensitive files and accounts
  • Use data sanitization tools if needed

Even when devices are no longer in use, data remnants can be exploited if not handled properly. Responsible recycling includes responsible data disposal.

At Singer India, circularity isn’t a trend—it’s our commitment to future generations. By embedding sustainability into our processes and by partnering with industry leaders like Elima, we’re paving the way for a cleaner, safer, and more resource-efficient tomorrow.

Join Us in Making a Difference

At Singer India, we believe that sustainability begins with informed choices—both from companies and consumers. While we are committed to recycling and responsible disposal, lasting impact requires everyday decisions that reduce the amount of electronic waste we generate. Here are a few practical strategies that you—as a conscious consumer—can adopt to minimize e-waste:

1. Make Thoughtful Purchasing Decisions

Choose quality over quantity. Before buying a new device, do your research and invest in products known for durability, repairability, and longer lifespans. Avoid products designed with planned obsolescence in mind—those made to break or become outdated quickly. Selecting robust, multi-functional devices can also help you reduce your total electronic footprint.

2. Extend the Life of Your Electronics

Before replacing a device, ask yourself: can it be repaired or upgraded? Many electronic issues are minor and can be fixed with simple repairs or part replacements. Reusing devices as long as they remain functional is one of the most effective ways to reduce waste.

3. Understand What Goes Into Your Devices

Electronic gadgets contain both valuable and harmful substances. Learn about the materials used in your electronics—such as rare earth metals and toxic chemicals—to understand their environmental impact. The more you know, the more conscious your future purchases will be.

4. Buy Environmentally Certified Products

Look for electronics that meet eco-labeling standards like Energy Star, RoHS, or EPEAT. These certifications indicate lower environmental impact, energy efficiency, and responsible manufacturing practices. Also, evaluate if you really need an additional device, or if one multi-use gadget can serve the same purpose.

5. Educate the Next Generation

Teaching children about responsible electronics use and e-waste recycling can help build lifelong habits. By involving them in simple actions—like dropping off an old device at a collection point—you create awareness that grows over time.

6. Recycle Responsibly

Never discard electronics in regular garbage or with municipal waste. Use certified collection centers or manufacturer take-back programs. Recycling ensures valuable materials are recovered and harmful substances are safely handled.

7. Protect Your Personal Data

Before handing over or recycling your old device, always back up and permanently erase all personal data. Many devices retain sensitive information even after deletion, so ensure secure data sanitization before disposal.

Encouraging a Culture of Recycling

At an organizational level, we support e-waste reduction by:

  • Establishing designated bins and collection counters at service centers and retail outlets
  • Collaborating with Elima to ensure smooth reverse logistics and certified recycling
  • Educating our teams and customers through campaigns and digital outreach
  • Providing incentives and easy return options for end-of-life products

We encourage all our customers to return old or non-working products to authorized channels, where they can be refurbished, recycled, or stripped for reusable components.

Together, let’s close the loop—because every responsible action today leads to a cleaner, safer tomorrow.
